Serengeti Camps, Tanzania
The Serengeti is not one place, and where a camp stands decides what you see. The southern short grass plains hold the calving herds around February. The western corridor gets the Grumeti crossings near June. Kogatende and Lamai in the north take the Mara River crossings from July. Fixed camps and lodges in the Serengeti ecosystem, including the Grumeti and Ikorongo concessions and the Ngorongoro rim, are ranked here on sector, on whether the ground is private (a concession permits off-road driving that the national park does not), and on how long the morning drive runs before game appears. Camps that pack up and follow the herds belong under mobile tented camps instead.
