Walking Safari Camps
On foot the safari changes scale. You stop counting big cats and start reading tracks, dung, birdsong and wind direction, and an elephant at eighty metres feels entirely different from the same animal seen from a Land Cruiser. The Luangwa invented the form in the 1950s and still does it best through its small bush camps, but Mana Pools, Ruaha, Nyerere and Kenya's northern rangelands all run serious walking programmes.
